IMPHAL, June 16 - Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh today called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, sources said.

But what has been discussed during the meeting was not known yet. However, sources here assumed the Chief Minister might have discussed the ongoing situation in the State arising out of the reported differences in the government.

During his stay in Delhi, the Chief Minister had met Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and BJP national leader Ram Madhav.

Meanwhile, the governments spokesperson Th Radheshyam on his arrival from Delhi at Imphal airport on Sunday clarified that the reason behind the visit of Manipur Ministers to New Delhi in the last few days is related with official meetings with their respective Union Ministers after the re-installation of a new government at the Centre.

Radheshyam, who holds the Education portfolio in the BJP-led coalition government in Manipur, also rejected media reports that most Ministers and BJP legislators were camping in New Delhi due to the political crisis in the State. BJP is a disciplined political party and any issue will be sorted out soon once the Chief Minister returns here, he said.

He also informed that the Union Education Ministry has assured that a sum of Rs 200 crore will be provided for the education sector in the State.

However, BJP MLA S Rajen, who also returned here from New Delhi on Sunday, told reporters that the party high command will bring an immediate solution to the ongoing situation in the State.

The report of political differences among the legislators and coalition partners in the coalition government over the alleged demand of leadership replacement and subsequent financial crisis had hit the headlines in the local dailies here since the last few days.

The Reserve Bank of India reportedly imposed a ban on all transaction of funds from the account of Manipur Government for having overdrawn funds in excess of arrangements.
