IMPHAL, Oct 18 � Manipur celebrated Mera Hou Chongba festival today. The celebration began with a rally taken out from Kangla in the afternoon by people of different communities attired in their traditional dresses.
The main function of the festival was held at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen, Palace Compound here. The rituals of Mera Mentongba and Yenkhongtamba, part of the festival, were also held at Kangla fort.
The titular king of Manipur Leishemba Sanajaoba attended the function as a special guest. People from the hills including the village heads from the disticts of Senapati, Chandel and Ukhrul also took part in the celebrations. Exchange of gifts between the people of the hills and the valley was the main highlight of the festival.
