Manipur cases rise to 1,700

IMPHAL, July 15 - With 28 new cases of COVID-19, Manipur today reported a total of 1,700 positive cases. The total active cases stand at 620.

In the past 24 hours, 28 persons, including 19 males and nine females, were confirmed positive at the VRDLs of the RIMS and the SDH Laboratory at Jiribam, stated a Manipur Health Department press release. They belong to Imphal West, Jiribam, Kakching, Kamjong, Tamengong and Thouba districts.

�All (except four persons namely a GP pradhan, a GP member, a security guard and a volunteer from Thoubal district) are returnees from other States� the release said.

Meanwhile, 60 persons have been discharged from COVID Care Centres at Meitram, RD Wing-Medical Directorate, Bishnupur, Senapati, Ukhrul and the COVID care facilities of the RIMS and the JNIMS in the past 24 hours. The recovered cases now stand at 1,080.

The four COVID-19 positive cases of Thoubal district have a history of exposure to known local risk factors. There is no evidence of community transmission in the district, the release added.

As of Wednesday, a total of 3,04,342 persons have been screened at various entry points of Manipur, while 65,8660 samples were tested for COVID-19, a report of the State Surveillance Officer of Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme stated. As per the report, altogether 55,733 persons have completed their quarantine, while 4,111 are still lodged at various quarantine centres in the State.
