Manipur cases cross 2,000 mark

IMPHAL, July 21 - With 90 new cases, the COVID-19 tally of Manipur has reached 2,015. The total active and recovered cases stand at 631 and 1,384 respectively, according to official sources.

Out of the 90 new cases, 68 are males and 22 are females. They were confirmed positive at the VRDL of the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, the district hospitals of Jiribam and Thoubal and the mobile testing team Imphal West, stated an official press release. The infected persons belong to Imphal East, Imphal West, Jiribam, Kangpokpi, Kakching, Tengnoupal and Thoubal districts.

Four persons from Thoubal district are non-returnees with local contact histories and the rest are returnees from other States, the release said.

In the past 24 hours, 64 persons have been discharged from COVID care centres at Meitram in Imphal West, Senapati, Tamenglong, Thoubal and Ukhrul and the COVID care facilities of the JNIMS after recovery.

Meanwhile, considering the spike in active cases in Thoubal district during the past few days, the district has been put under complete lockdown till July 27.

Chief Secretary Dr J Suresh Babu, who is the chairperson of State executive committee of the State Disaster Management Authority, issued an order in this regard today.
