Manipur by-poll today

IMPHAL, Oct 16 � All necessary arrangement for smooth conduct of the by-poll in Manipur�s Hiyanglam Assembly constituency under Thoubal district tomorrow has been completed. The polling will be held from 7 am to 4 pm, Election department officials said.

The Election authority has identified 7 of the 34 polling stations in the constituency as hyper-sensitive. Accordingly, each polling station would be manned by 10 Central paramilitary personnel, the sources said. The counting of votes will take place on October 20.

Altogether, 24,492 voters including 12,539 females voters will decide the fate of former MLA E Dwijamani (Congress), former MLA Maibam Kunjo�s son Dhanabir (BJP), Trinamool Congress candidate Dr Y Radheshyam, Manipur Peoples Party�s M Amutombi and Th Laiba of Manipur State Congress Party in the by-poll.

The election has been necessitated after the demise of sitting MLA Kunjo on August 11 this year.

Birds rescued: Assam Rifles troops in Tamenglong have handed over a Great Barbet bird to People�s For Animal (PFA) Manipur. The troops found the bird being reared in a remote village, according to PFA. �They informed to PFA about the bird and sent it to Imphal in a small cage.�

A little girl of Thangmeiband Lourung Purel Leikai had handed over one Malayan Box Turtle which was found near a drain of her house, the PFA source added.
