Manipur bandh hits life

By The Assam Tribune

IMPHAL, Sept 21 - A State-wide bandh in Manipur called by a militant outfit hit normal life today.

Police said the bandh was called by National Revolutionary Front of Manipur (NRFM) as a protest against merger of Manipur with the Indian Union allegedly under pressure in 1949.

Inter-State and inter-districts bus, mini bus, taxi and auto-rickshaw services were hit during the bandh. All markets, shops and business establishments, hotels, motels and entertainment houses remained closed during the day, the police said.

Also closed were educational institutions, government and private run-schools, colleges and university. Attendance in government and public undertaking offices was very thin, official sources said.

There was, however, no report of any untoward incident so far. PTI
