IMPHAL, May 24 � The indefinite bandh called by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) against the killing of a youth has been called off after the Manipur Government made assurances that its demands will be fulfilled.
Reports said that the understanding was reached between the JAC and the Chief Minister. As per the understanding, the involved police personnel have been suspended.
The government will provide an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh and a government job to the next of kin of the victim. It also agreed to release unconditionally three youths who were arrested by the police on the day of the incident on May 17.
On May 17, class XII student Korounganba was killed in police firing in Imphal East district while one of his colleague sustained injury.
