Mani Kumar Subba dead

NEW DELHI, May 27 - Controversial Congress leader and former Lok Sabha member Mani Kumar Subba passed away on Sunday night at a hospital in Gurgaon. The lottery baron suffered a heart attack on Sunday night at his Chhatarpur farm house and was rushed to Artemis Hospital but was declared brought dead. Subba will be cremated at the Lodi Road crematorium on Tuesday, family sources said.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal condoled the demise of the veteran leader. �Saddened to learn about the demise of former Lok Sabha MP Mani Kumar Subba. My heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and well-wishers in this time of grief,� he tweeted. Former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president Ripun Bora also expressed condolences.

In 2014, Subba was admitted to a hospital in Guwahati following a cardiac arrest. After that, he was shifted to New Delhi for better treatment. He was bed-ridden for the past five years.

Subba, who claimed he was born in Darjeeling, leaves behind his wife, a son and three daughters.

According to his colleagues in the Congress party, Subba had stayed in Sikkim for a while after allegedly coming from Nepal. In Sikkim, he allegedly ran a lottery business before moving to Arunachal Pradesh and then to Assam.
