Mangaldai College teacher arrested

MANGALDAI, May 6 - Mangaldai police on Wednesday arrested Rupa Rani Bhuyan, a teacher of Mangaldai College and a resident of Upahupara here on charges of misbehaving with a police officer.

Officer in-charge of Mangaldai Police Station, Inspector Niranjan Baruah, told mediapersons that Bhuyan was asked to appear before the in-charge of the Mangaldai Police Station women cell Sub-Inspector Twinkle Goswami for interrogation in connection with three cases registered at the police station. The cases registered against Bhuyan were regarding her recent controversial posts in a social media against eminent literateur of the State Syed Abdul Malik.

�But instead of cooperating with the investigation officer, Bhuyan misbehaved with her and created an unruly atmosphere. Later, on the basis of an FIR of SI Goswami, a case (no. 264 /2020 u/s 353 /294 & 506 IPC) was registered. Subsequently, Bhuyan was arrested and sent to judicial custody,� Inspector Baruah said.

Earlier, three cases (no. 225 /2020, 236 /2020 & 241 /2020) under the IT Act have been reportedly been registered at the police station against Bhuyan.
