Maneka, Sonowal discuss nutrition issues

GUWAHATI, April 20 - Union Minister for Women and Child Development Maneka Gandhi today met Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal at the latter�s office chamber in Janata Bhawan and discussed with him issues on women and child nutrition and animal protection, stated an official press release here this evening.

Vowing to bring the country�s nutrition scheme on track in Assam, the Union Cabinet minister and the Chief Minister discussed modalities to strengthen nutritional mechanism of women and children and provide nutritional food sachets in schools and other centres where women and children come and assemble. Giving an overview of the State Government�s initiatives in providing meals in schools and anganwadi centres, Chief Minister Sonowal said that his government is fully committed to implementing the nutritional food sachets scheme in letter and spirit to ensure nutrition to women and children in the State. He also hoped that once the scheme is fully implemented in the State, the issue of malnutrition will become a passe.

The Union Cabinet minister also hailed the State Government�s role in the conservation of rhinos and other endangered species in the national parks and other wildlife sanctuaries. The duo also discussed the constitution of the Animal Welfare Board in Assam and the Chief Minister said that all the modalities are being framed to constitute the welfare board.

Minister of State (independent charge) for Social Welfare Naba Kumar Doley, Chief Minister�s Media and Legal Advisers Hrishikesh Goswami and Santanu Bharali, Chief Secretary VK Pipersenia, Additional Chief Secretary Ravi Capoor, Commissioner and Secretary to the Chief Minister Sanjay Lohiya and other senior officers of the administration were present in the meeting, added the press release.
