Management-contractor nexus ruined paper mills: Patowary

GUWAHATI, Sept 5 - The 12 model degree colleges being established in the educationally backward districts of the State have been equally funded by both the Union and the State governments. The State government would bear the complete expenditure related to the salary of the staff of these colleges.

In a written reply to a starred question by Congress� Ajanta Neog in the State Assembly today, State Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that as per the proposal in a meeting of the University Grants Commission in 2009, the model degree colleges were approved in November 2013 by the Rashtriya Uchchatar Siksha Abhiyan (RUSA) project approval board.

�Both the Union and the State governments are bearing 50:50 cost of the 12 colleges in the State,� the minister replied.

A sum of Rs 9 crore has been fixed for each of the colleges with State and Centre paying Rs 4 crore each. The additional Rs 1 crore for the girls� hostel would be given by the Union government.

Moreover, an additional sum of Rs 20,45,41,530 for additional infrastructure in five such colleges would be given by the State government.
