DHEMAJI, May 18 - Sensation prevails in Sissiborgaon area in Dhemaji district over the killing of a housewife by her home-quarantined husband at No. 1 Betanipam village in Sissiborgaon on Saturday night.
Lintu Gogoi, an inhabitant of No. 1 Betanipam village under Sissiborgaon Outpost here, who was under home quarantine, killed his wife after drinking country liquor (sulai), sources said.
Lintu was engaged as a worker in another State for several months and when he returned home a few days ago, he was quarantined at his own home, sources said. But defying the bindings of the lockdown, he roamed about everyday out of his home and almost every night he consumed sulai and quarrelled with his wife.
On Saturday night too, he returned home like the other days after drinking and began to quarrel with his wife and beat her up severely resulting in her (Yamuna Gogoi, aged 32) death in front of her husband at their own home.
On being informed by Lintu�s brother, the Sissiborgaon Outpost police on Sunday morning arrested the culprit from his home and after registering a case under the IPC section 302, sent him to jail.
The local people here have alleged that this heart-rendering incident has taken place because of the abundant availability of country liquor and addiction to it.
