GUWAHATI, Sept 26 - A police complaint has been lodged against one Shantanu Kumar Ojah by his wife for allegedly marrying another woman without divorcing his first wife (complainant). According to the complainant, her husband is an active member of a national political party.
The woman, who lodged the complaint at the Basistha Police Station on Monday, alleged that she and Shantanu used to live together as �husband-wife� from September 2015 and in February 2018, they got formally married in court.
�Last Friday night, my husband said that he had to leave for some training in Hojai. He asked me to leave for Lakhimpur to meet my son from my first marriage, who stays there to pursue his studies. On September 23, when I was on my way back from Lakhimpur to Guwahati, I came to know about his second marriage through some Facebook post. I immediately called him and he very casually admitted his second marriage and said that he would meet me in Guwahati. On September 24, I reached Guwahati, but he did not meet me. Rather, he has kept his phone switched off till now,� the complainant told this correspondent.
�During the last three years he physically tortured me on many occasions. But, I did not raise my voice against him just for the sake of my son from my first husband, who is no more. My son has not seen his father and there is a strong bonding between him and my second husband (Shantanu). So, for the sake of my son�s future, I�ve borne all the torture,� the complainant added.
She also alleged that the police have not yet taken any action against her husband due to political pressure.
�I had lodged the complaint on September 24 morning and till now, even after 48 hours, the police have not taken any action. My family and I have been continuously requesting the police to do something about the case. But, till now I haven�t got any positive response from them. This is because Shantanu is an active worker of BJP and is very close to many State-level top leaders of the party,� she alleged.
Meanwhile, reacting to the allegation, Basistha Police Station OC Nabajit Das Baghri said the accused person is absconding and �we have registered a case and investigation is under way to trace him.�
On the other hand, the State leadership of the political party has denied knowledge of any active worker of the party from Guwahati by the name of Shantanu Kumar Ojah.
