BONGAIGAON, May 2 - A person killed his drug addict son after a quarrel near hotel Kanishka in Bongaigaon town on Friday night.
The deceased has been identified as 23-year-old Karnab. He started taking drugs seven years back when he was studying in Class XII at Pathsala in Barpeta district.
His father Puranjay Nath (48) is a small trader who lives near Bongaigaon Police Station in the town. Karnab assaulted him demanding Rs 2 lakh for his expenditure on Friday night and ran away from home.
Puranjay chased his son and killed him with a khukri at around 8:30 pm and came back home. Later, some local residents spotted the body and informed the police. Karnab�s younger brother came to the spot and identified the body.
Police reached Karnab�s house and arrested his father Puranjay after which he confessed to the crime. A murder case has been registered against Puranjay.
�It�s a murder case and we have taken him in three-day remand for further interrogation after he was produced before Bongaigaon court today,� Bongaigaon Superintendent of Police Singha Ram Mili said.
