SILCHAR, Feb 29 - Souradeep Sengupta, a lecturer in a local college was sent to judicial custody today for his objectionable posts on Facebook in the context of mass violence which erupted in New Delhi, police informed today.
According to police, Souradeep Sengupta was arrested late last night after a group of students filed an FIR alleging him of posting objectionable statements against sanatan dharma and also using derogatory remarks against the Prime Minister.
�The complaint is against Souradeep Sengupta for making derogatory remarks against sanatan dharma and also alleging that Prime Minister was a mass murderer and trying to incite communal violence,� the FIR read.
It may be mentioned that in another post, Sengupta had sought an apology saying �I apologise for any religious sentiments I may have hurt by my posts. My intention was not an insult to any religion, at large. He had realised that his post might hurt sentiments and sought a heartfelt apology on Facebook,� family sources of Sengupta claimed.
He was arrested and charged under sections 295A, 153A, 507 of the IPC and 66 of the IT Act, a senior police officer informed. According to sources, the Court has asked for the case diary on Monday.
On the other hand, according to the management of Guru Charan College, if needed, the decision of appointment or termination of the accused faculty shall be made after it is placed before the Governing Body of the college.
