Man held in liquor den case taken into one-day custody

GUWAHATI, Sept 13 - Subhash Boro, who was yesterday arrested by excise officials on charges of running an illegal bottling unit in 12th Mile area of Jorabat, was today produced in court and taken into one-day custody.

An excise official said investigation is going on to ensure who are the people involved in the racket. Strangely, in a report prepared today, the excise department stated that they were still trying to ascertain as to who was the owner of the land.

Among the items recovered from the plot were 3,200 litres of ENA (extra neutral alcohol), 5,200 empty plastic bottles, 2 lakh labels of various liquor brands, 2 lakh corks, one filter, one tank, a bottle washing machine and a packaging platform.

Arrested Boro admitted in custody that the materials were kept there by him with one Purna Kanta Neog. Boro is the owner of the truck recovered from the site. The raid was conducted on the plot located at Ambhergaon on the evening of September 11 and continued till late last night.

The excise officials had first visited the premises of a bottling plant � Himalayan Distillery Pvt Ltd � which is owned by one Jitu Goswami. The illegal manufacturing den is located just opposite this plant. Arrested Boro is an employee of Himalayan Distillery.
