Man hacks wife, stepmother to death

NORTH LAKHIMPUR, July 25 - A man hacked several persons including policemen and was arrested after a chase in Lakhimpur�s Bangalmara.

The incident took place at Gohain Pukhuri village, where Noor Jamal hacked his wife, daughter, father and his stepmother with a sharp weapon on Friday. His wife, Sajida Begum and step mother Mumtaz Begum died while his father Abdul Halim (55) and nephew Taslima Begum (7) were injured. Noor Jamal also attacked several neighbours.

The accused then locked himself inside a house when police arrived. Noor Jamal came outside when police broke the door and attacked them. Inspector-in-Charge of Bangalmara Outpost Arjun Singh was injured. Police driver Basudev Gogoi was also attacked. Police fired when the accused continued to attack them and one Ramjan Ali was injured in that process.

Later, Noor was arrested with the help of villagers from a paddy field after his failed attempt to commit suicide by slitting his throat.
