TURA, Sept 18 - A former president of the district Youth Congress (Bajengdoba) has allegedly duped a woman of Rs 2.5 lakh. She was reportedly living with him for the past six years. However, he ran away with the money after promising to marry the woman.

The victim was in a live-in relationship with the accused, identified as Siljohn N Sangma, and they were living together in Adokgre village, where the woman is a teacher.

However, when the family of the victim went to fix a date for marriage, they were shocked to see that Siljohn did not want to marry her. In fact just two days after the visit by the victims family, the accused was engaged to another girl.

Finding no other option, the victim with support from her family filed an FIR against the accused on August 30 at Resubelpara on allegations of cheating. She also accused that he siphoned off Rs Rs 2.5 lakh from the account of the victim.

We were living together for over six years and were living as husband and wife. He, however, took advantage of the situation and withdrew money from my ATM card. The total withdrawal is over Rs 2.5 lakh. I am now four months pregnant with his child, said the victim.

Police sources of NGH said that a search operation is on for Siljohn who according to reports has sought an anticipatory bail, but was denied.
