GOALPARA, Jan 4 - Nareshwar Koch, a daily wage earner of Tinikunia Para under Mornoi PS and Matia revenue circle who was declared a foreigner by the No. 5 Foreigner Tribunal Court, Mornoi through an ex parte judgment in 2018 died at the GMCH on January 2 last after he was brought from Goalpara detention centre in a critical condition. This is the first death in a detention centre in this new year. Reliable sources said that he had suffered a major stroke on December 21, leaving half of his body paralysed.
Meanwhile, local sources said that Nareshwar Koch aged around 55 years first came to Meghalaya from erstwhile East Pakistan in 1964 and finally settled down in Tinikunia para where he lived for around 35 years.
He was a daily wage earner and his name also figured in the voters� list but the border police identified him as foreigner and referred his case to the FT court at Mornoi where he was declared as a foreigner through an ex parte judgement in 2018.
It may be mentioned that late Nareshwar Koch�s son Babulal Koch name had figured in the NRC. The gaonburah and the people of the locality protested the handing over of his body by the police to his wife Gini Koch at Guwahati as he was a declared foreigner. He was cremated last evening at Goalpara.
