UDALGURI, July 5 - Police in Bebejia in Sonitpur district arrested a man named Padum Chetry yesterday from his residence in Udalguri for allegedly trying to marry a girl while he was still married to another woman.
According to information, a few days back, the accused allegedly had a court marriage with a woman who worked as a nurse. He later tried to marry another girl which was to be socially solemnised today at Kukurakata in Tangla in Udalguri district.
When Chetry�s first wife came to know of his plan, she rushed to the police station at Bebejia and lodged an FIR. Accordingly, police sprung into the action and arrested the man from his Udalguri residence and took him into custody.
Meanwhile, talking to this correspondent, the parents of the second bride expressed shock over the plan of the accused and demanded full compensation for the wedding expenditure.
