AIZAWL, July 2 - A man in Silsuri village in western Mizoram�s Mamit district under West Phaileng police station has absconded after hacking the village chief to death on Sunday night, police said.
Police are on the lookout for Moangla Chakma, who hacked the village council president Sneha Ranjan in a fit of rage and killed him. His whereabouts is unknown till now.
Sources said the village council was having a meeting under the chairmanship of its president on Sunday night when Chakma walked into the meeting room and inquired about a list of MGNREGS job card holders said to have been issued by Mizoram Rural Bank. �If you have any doubt with the list, you can check it with the bank manager,� the village council president reportedly told Chakma, after explaining to him about the list of beneficiaries.
Enraged by this, Chakma shot back at the VCP: �Don�t argue with me, I will hack you!�
Not knowing that Chakma was carrying a dao, the VCP reportedly said: �Hack me if you want�. Chakma moved swiftly and hacked the VCP on his jaw with the dao. Then, he immediately fled and disappeared. Ranjan succumbed to his injuries a few minutes later.
