GUWAHATI, Dec 2 � Author and Ramayani scholar of international repute, Dr Mamoni Raisom Goswami�s adyashraddha was performed at a widely-attended ceremony at her Gandhibasti residence today.
Throughout the day, close associates and admirers of Mamoni baideu thronged the residence of the distinguished writer and paid tribute to the departed soul. The rituals were performed by Mrinmoyee Goswami, niece of Dr Mamoni Raisom, who was very close to the writer.
The South East Asian Ramayani Research Institute, which was headed by Dr Mamoni Raisom Goswami herself, is planning to preserve the Gandhibasti residence of the writer and convert the first floor of the house, where Dr Goswami lived, into a museum.
�Dr Goswami gave the library, which is on the ground floor of the Ramayani Research Institute during her lifetime. Now, according to the court deed, the first floor of the house would also go to the institute,� Arun Goswami, a trustee of the institute told The Assam Tribune.
�We would soon organize a meeting of the trustees to select a chairperson of the trust that runs the centre and another trustee to complete the trust. We would also finalize the plan to convert the first floor of the house into a museum displaying Dr Mamoni Raisom�s belongings.
�To preserve the memory of the literary icon, we are also thinking about preserving the entire house as a memorial, which has been done with the residences of many celebrated writers of the world,� he said.
The centre is also contemplating a project to publish the research work on Thai and Karbi Ramayana in English. �The research work on both the projects is on and if the manuscript is approved by the competent committee, we would publish the research work,� he mentioned.
Though her married life with Madhaven Raisom was not very long, Dr Goswami was able to make her place in the hearts of the people of Karnataka, the native State of her husband.
�Though she did not visit Karnataka quite often, the ties were not completely snapped after her husband�s death. The people of the Karnataka were very happy when they came to know that the daughter-in-law of the State received the coveted Jnanpith Award,� said Srijayanthi, niece of Madhaven Raisom, who came to the adyashraddha of the writer.
Vijaya Karnataka, a prominent daily newspaper of the State, is taking out a special supplement on her this Sunday.
�The Saga of South Kamrup, written by Dr Goswami, has been translated into Kannada. Now, we are planning to translate some more books of the writer into Kannada, so that more and more people can know about Dr Mamoni Raisom and her literature,� she added.
