GUWAHATI, Sept 3 - A quiz contest on �Mamoni Raisom Goswami and Ramayana literature� was organised on September 2 by the South East Asia Ramayana Research Centre, a press release stated today.

The quiz contest, held at the Pandit Tirthanath Sarma auditorium in Chandmari here, was open for students from class VIII to XII. The quiz was conducted by Nabakanta Baishya. A total of 12 teams took part in the quiz contest. The preliminary round was a written quiz, out of which seven teams were shortlisted for the final round.

The first prize of Rs 5,000 was won by Ankujyoti Sarma and Madhurjya Goswami of Cotton University, the second prize of Rs 3,000 by Bornil Medhi, Devanit Dutta and Animesh Deka of Assam Jatiya Bidyalay, while the third prize of Rs 2,000 was won by Sanjib Kumar Das, Niyor Pratim Kalita and Partha Pratim Sarma also from Cotton University. The winners also received certificates and books.

Speaking on the occasion, noted writer Phanindra Kumar Deb Choudhury stressed the need for more research on various aspects of the Ramayana.
