Majuli satra bhakats sue satradhikar

JORHAT, March 18 � For the first time in the history of the satras in Majuli, the abode of the Vaishnavite culture, a case has been filed against the satradhikar by the bhakats of the satra.

On March 8 as many as ten bhakats of Natun Kamalabari Satra filed a case against Satradhikar Narayan Chandra Goswami for alleged involvement in corruption, stated a press release issued by Prabhat Bora, Burhabhokot of Natun Kamalabari Satra, Majuli.

The case (Writ Petition, Civil Roll) 1556/2011), was filed at the Gauhati High Court by 10 persons of the satra including Premo Ojha Borbayan.

In this regard a notice was served to the Satradhikar on March 16, 2011 asking him to respond within 28 days of the notice. The bhakats will be represented by advocates Nabin Chandra Das and Navanita Barua.
