JORHAT, March 26 - Majuli Deputy Commissioner Debaprasad Misra, who is also the District Election Officer, has lent his voice to the theme song of SVEEP (Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation ) programme as the lead singer.
An official of the Majuli district administration told The Assam Tribune this evening that Misra has contributed as the lead singer of the theme song Akou Ahil Vote, which has been penned by Majuli Additional Deputy Commissioner Chinnmoy Nath and the District Project Manager of the District Disaster Management Authority, Majuli island, Dibyajyoti Saikia.
The music of the song, brought out under the banner of the Election department of Majuli administration, has been composed by Shyamal Bhuyan of Majuli.
The song will be used to create mass awareness among the voters, especially the first-time voters, to increase voters� participation, the official stated. The official further said that Misra, who also has a separate identity as a singer, has sung several songs and recently gave his voice and also featured in the DVD album Majuli-O-Majuli, along with renowned singer Dr Sangita Kakoti.
State Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal in January this year released the said album having several songs with videos depicting the art and cultural practices of the river island.
The poll theme song was today released by Misra at a function held at the conference hall of the Majuli DC�s office building at Garmur. Prominent citizens, youths, women, singers, musicians and officials of the administration attended the function. The co-singers of the poll theme song are: Papori Baruah, Pubali Dutta and Himadri Bora.
It may be mentioned here that Majuli Assembly seat is presently represented by Chief Minister Sarabananda Sonowal and the incumbent Lakhimpur MP is Pradan Baruah of BJP, who was a former BJP MLA from Dhemaji. He represented the Congress party from Jonai seat from 2011 to 2016.
Meanwhile, the Jorhat district election officer Uday Shankar Dutta too has penned, composed tune and sung the election theme song for the Jorhat election district. The song is Aami nagarik ganatantrik deshor, aami nagarik Jorhat saharar.....
Dutta has penned and lent his voice to several jingles to attract the voters to cast their votes on the polling day.
