Major plastic cos to invest in State

GUWAHATI, May 24 � Three plastic-based industries from Gujarat and Maharashtra that participated in the North East International Plasto Fair, 2010 held at Guwahati, have decided to open their units in the State.

Announcing this at a press meet today the State Industry and Commerce Minister Pradyut Bordoloi said that the fair, that concluded today, has attracted many of the plastic-based industries to explore business opportunities in Assam and the North-east.

�New industrial units from two Gujarat-based and one Maharashtra based companies would come up in the State,� he said, adding that the details of these industries would be divulged later.

�Machineries worth Rs 10,00,00,000 brought for the purpose of exhibition were purchased by the entrepreneurs here and the participating companies also booked the orders for more machineries worth Rs 50,00,00,000, which shows the keenness of the entrepreneurs towards the plastic-based industries,� said Bordoloi.

The fair, that started from May 21 at the Maniram Dewan Trade Centre, Guwahati, was participated by 132 industrial units and institutions from across the country with raw materials, machineries and finished products.

Bordoloi also mentioned that the popular brand Sintex has decided to open a corporate office in Guwahati and three companies from Gujarat and Maharashtra have also decided to setup units in the State.

�Moreover, the GAIL (India) Limited would open a showroom in the AIDC office premises,� he added.

The fair also registered ten new plastic-based industries on its concluding day today.

�Moreover, 90 youths trained by Central Institute for Plastic Engineering and Technology (CIPET) and the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) were shortlisted during the fair and more companies have expressed willingness to recruit ITI-trained youths,� he added.

The fair witnessed footfalls of approximately 15,000 people, even as 2,000 youths from all districts of the State participated in the fair.

The fair was organised to trigger the growth of plastic industry in the State at the initiative of Assam Government, GAIL (India) Limited, Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL), Oil India Limited (OIL), Plastindia Foundation and Federation of Industry and Commerce of North Eastern Region (FINER).
