Major Gen Ranjit Singh takes over as IG Assam Rifles

SILCHAR, Nov 18 - Major General Ranjit Singh, VSM, has taken charge as the Inspector General of Assam Rifles (East) on Wednesday from Major General GAV Reddy, SC VSM. Major General Singh would be the sixth incumbent in Srikona Garrison, Silchar.

In a release issued to the media, a spokesperson from Assam Rifles stated that Major General Ranjit Singh, VSM, has vast operational experiences in counter-insurgency operations and most difficult terrains across the country. He commanded 7th Battalion of the Madras Regiment in Tinsukia, Binaguri and 56 Mountain Brigade in Dras/Kargil � which is famous for the Kargil War.

He was awarded the prestigious Vishisht Seva Medal for his service as a Brigade Commander. He has served earlier in Mokokchung, Tinsukia and Rangiya and has been hand-picked for this prestigious appointment.
