NORTH LAKHIMPUR, March 3 � Properties worth several crores of rupees were destroyed in a fire that occurred in North Lakhimpur last night. The incident took place in the godown of Hiralal Mohanlal, one of the oldest business establishments of the town at 9 pm. The fire quickly spread to nearby shops and engulfed many buildings damaging everything inside. Fire-tenders could douse the flames after a prolonged three-hours battle. The poor and delayed response by the district administration and the fire service in this regard was flayed by the public.
It may be mentioned that the union minister and local MP Sarbanda Sonowal had immediately asked the district administration to take assistance from the fire brigade station of Lilabari airport and NHPC, Gogamukh.
