Jan 5 � The Gauhati High Court directed the APSC to publish the corrected list of selected candidates of the Combined Competitive Civil Services Examination, 2006 .

Jan 10 � Myanmar agreed to the Indian proposal to reopen the Stilwell Road.

Jan 29 � AASU reiterates call for DNA tests of suspected Bangladeshi infiltrators.

Feb 5 � Chief Minister endorsed the move to amend the Essential Commodities Act to make hoarding a non-bailable offence.

Feb 7 � Chief Minister urged the Centre to adopt the 1971 rolls as the base year for preparation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC).

Feb 23 � TADA court granted bail to ULFA vice president Pradeep Gogoi and publicity secretary Mithinga Daimary.

Feb 25 � Chief Minister announced the decision to recommend a CBI probe into the financial irregularities in NC Hills.

March 4 � The Government of Assam was asked by the Centre to prepare two pilot projects based on the updated NRC, 1951. ULFA vice president Pradeep Gogoi was released on bail.

March 8 � Mising Council principal secretary Gargaram Pegu held with Rs 16 lakh at Mangaldoi.

March 11 � The State Government introduced The Assam Public Health Bill, 2010, in the Legislative Assembly.

March 15 � Chief Minister presented in the State Assembly a deficit Budget of Rs 3464.46 crore for 2010-11.

March 17 � The State Assembly passed a resolution for updating the 1951 NRC basing it on the electoral rolls of 1971.

March 24 � DoNER Minister assured that both the Bogibeel bridge and the Lumding-Badarpur gauge conversion project would be completed by 2012.

March 26 � The Congress clinched both the Rajya Sabha seats. Four MLAs of the State BJP were suspended for defying the party whip and voting for the Congress.

April 2 � The Assam Government renamed North Cachar Hills as Dima Hasao district.

April 4 � Governor JB Patnaik created a history of sorts when he persuaded the Sattradhikar of the Patbausi Sattra in Barpeta to allow women into the sanctum sanctorum of the shrine, traditionally kept out of bounds for women for centuries.

April 6 � Union Minister for Forest and Environment Jairam Ramesh declared Majuli as an �eco-sensitive� zone.

April 13 � The BPF regained power in the BTC by winning the elections.

April 19 � Paresh Baruah, ULFA �C-in-C� made it clear that the outfit would sit for talks only on the issue of sovereignty of Assam.

April 22 � A pilot project for the update of the NRIC would get under way in two circles, Barpeta and Chaygaon from June. This was part of a series of decisions arrived at a tripartite review meeting on implementation of the Assam Accord.

April 24 � The State-level convention organised by prominent citizens of Assam called upon both the Government and the ULFA to come forward for a negotiated settlement of the problems without any preconditions.

April 26 � Hagrama Mohilary, BPF supremo, took oath of office as the chief executive member of BTC for the second consecutive term.

April 29 � Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Jitin Prasada ruled out the possibility of the ONGC pulling out of Assam and resumption of seismic surveys in the Brahmaputra river.

April 30 � Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee announced exemption of service tax on domestic air travel to and from the NE region.

May 1 � NDFB chairman Ranjan Daimary alias DR Nabla was handed over to Indian security forces by Bangladesh.

May 6 � Four candidates from Assam were among the successful candidates in this year�s IAS and allied services examination.

May 26 � The Cabinet Committee on Infrastructure cleared a proposal for construction of a bridge over the Brahmaputra linking Sadiya Ghat with Dhola.

June 21 � Prime Minister agreed to facilitate talks with the ULFA for restoration of peace.

June 24 � Justice Madan Bhimarao Lokur was sworn in as Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court.

July 1 � Centre extended the ceasefire agreements with the pro-talk group of the NDFB and DHD (Nunisa) factions for six months.

July 3 � DHD (J) C-in-C Niranjan Hojai was arrested in Nepal.

July 8 � NDFB cadres triggered a blast on the Kolkota-bound Garib Rath Express.

July 15 � The Government of India appointed PC Haldar, former Director of IB, as the interlocutor for peace talks with the ULFA. The Assam Government made it mandatory for the industries set up in the State to fill up all the posts of unskilled workers and 90 per cent managerial posts with local persons.

July 17 � The House Committee on mega hydel projects said in its report that no dam should be constructed in the State or in the neighbouring States without a proper, comprehensive, scientific study on the downstream impact.

July 20 � The Central and State governments accepted the demand of the AASU to make provisions for reservation of seats in Parliament, State Assembly and local bodies for indigenous people at a tripartite meeting. Rousing welcome to the Queen�s baton for the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Guwahati.

July 24 � The ULFA appealed to its jailed leaders not to give up the demand for sovereignty.

Aug 1 � Chief Minister constituted a Cabinet committee to examine the difficulties being faced during the process of updating the NRC, 1951.

Aug 2 � The Ministry of Environment and Forests called for the expert panel report on mega dams.

Aug 4 � Renowned cardiac surgeon Dr Ramakant Panda along with a team of doctors successfully conducted bypass and valve replacement surgeries on Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi at the Asian Heart Institute, Mumbai.

Aug 6 � The Supreme Court directed the Government to take over the management of ailing tea gardens across the country and provide arrears and wages to their workers.

Aug 14 � The State Government announced the list of individuals selected for the monthly pension as well as one-time financial grant from the fields of cultural, literature and sports.

Aug 23 � The situation remained tense in Charaipung area ten days after Arunachalis� agression in the border areas of Assam under Charaipung PS.

Aug 29 � The RBI has asked the banks of the NE region to instal coin-vending machines.

Sept 4 � Former CM Prafulla Kumar Mahanta was elected leader of the AGP Legislature Party.

Sept 5 � India is betting big on a Rs 1,700-crore project to develop an alternate route through Myanmar to transport goods to the North-east.

Sept 6 � The Water Resources department proposed a Rs 177,56, 24,000 scheme for protection of the Kaziranga National Park from erosion.

Sept 7 � Environment Ministry gave the green signal to the ambitious 1,820-metre aerial ropeway across the Brahmaputra river connecting Guwahati and North Guwahati via the Umananda island.

Sept 9 � The Asam Sahitya Sabha decided to approach the UNESCO for recognition as the biggest literary institution in the world.

Sept 24 � As many as 22 hardcore ULFA cadres were handed over to India by Bangladesh. The AASU announced suspension of its ongoing economic blockade against Nagaland.

Sept 27 � ULFA �C-in-C� Paresh Barua admitted that there are differences of opinion among the members of the outfit on the issue of talks with the Government. The Central Government accepted an Assam Government proposal for construction of a road along the entire stretch of international boundary with Bhutan between Udalguri and Kokrajhar districts.

Sept 28 � Central Government�s interlocutor PC Haldar met the jailed ULFA leaders.

Oct 1 � The Gauhati High Court directed the Centre and the State Government to take �immediate steps without any excuse� for complete sealing/fencing of the international border with Bangladesh.

Oct 6 � The Ministry of HRD included Guwahati as one of the locations for the proposed 14 world-class universities.

Oct 7 � The Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd sought a hike in the average power tariff to Rs 5.99 against the existing Rs 4.54 per unit.

Oct 19 � The NIA filed the chargesheet in connection with its case relating to alleged diversion of public funds for terrorist activities in the NC Hills district.

Oct 26 � Bhubaneswar Kalita was retained as the APCC chief for the third consecutive term.

Oct 28 � The ABSU staged a demonstration in the Delhi to press for creation of a separate State of Bodoland.

Oct 30 - Meghalaya police recovered arms and ammunition evidently belonging to the ULFA that were kept hidden inside a school complex in Shillong. The Assam Badminton Academy was formally inaugurated by Chief Minister.

Nov 7 � Chief Minister dedicated the �Sarathi 104�, a 24-hour health information health-line service to the people of the State.

Nov 8 � As many as 15 persons were killed in separate incidents of violence carried out by the militants of the anti-talk faction of the NDFB in different parts of the State.

Nov 10 � The Centre blamed insurgency problems in addition to land acquisition and forest clearance for the delay of the East West Corridor Project in Assam.

Nov 13 � The AASU, through a massive Gana Satyagraha, asserted its demand for implementing the Assam Accord in its entirety.

Nov 17 � The Chinese company, which is constructing a 510 MW hydropower station on the Brahmaputra river in Tibet, said the project would not reduce water flow downstream as feared by countries like India.

Nov 18 � The All Assam Shramik Krishak Kalyan Parishad alleged that the State Water Resources Department is involved in a scam worth more than Rs 10,000 crore.

Nov 19 � As many as 43 Bodo political and non-political organisations came together to form the Bodo National Conference, a common platform to solve the various issues affecting the Bodo people.

Nov 22 � The Supreme Court admitted the civil writ petition filed by the Assam Public Works that called for deletion of �excess voters� from the electoral rolls ahead of the forthcoming Assembly polls.

Nov 23 � The designated TADA court granted bail to ULFA �deputy c-in-c� Raju Baruah. The State Government proposed a three-pronged action plan to the 26 organisations, including AASU, on the NRC update process. Opposing any changes in the existing format of the NRC form, the AASU and 25 other indigenous organisations asked the State Government to start updating the document simultaneously in all parts of the State.

Nov 30 � The Centre ruled out the possibility of withdrawing the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, (AFSPA) 1958.

Dec 2 � China told India that it has always taken a responsible attitude towards trans-border rivers.

Dec 3 � Chief Minister dedicated the Rs 141- crore Matmara dyke in Dhakuakhana subdivision of Lakhimpur district to the people. Self-styled chairman of UNLF Rajkumar Meghen alias Sana Yaina was produced before the Special NIA Court, Guwahati.

Dec 4 � The State Government agreed to provide time scale promotion to its employees.

Dec 5 � The State Government claimed that no excess money was released to the NC Hills District Autonomous Council without any budget provision.

Dec 8 � The Centre asked the Government of Assam to suggest new timelines for completion of the NRC update pilot project.

Dec 14 � The Prime Minister�s Office (PMO) called for an updated status report on the implementation of the Gas Cracker project. The Union Home Minister appealed to the insurgent groups in North-east to give up violence and come forward for talks.

Dec 18 � The ULFA claimed that two of its leaders were picked up by Indian Intelligence agencies in Bangladesh.

Dec 20 � Bhutan Prime Minister Jigmi Y Thinley said in Guwahati that his Government would never allow its soil to be used by the North-East insurgent groups.

Dec 23 � Paresh Barua C-in-C of ULFA claimed that his son has been kidnapped.

Dec 26 � The second volume of the Asamia Jatiya Abhidhan was released.
