Major drug haul in Dibrugarh

DIBRUGARH, Oct 15 - In a major operation, police today seized over 5 kg of banned narcotics, worth around Rs 5 crore, from the rented apartment of one Sarbeque Ahmed at Nizara Path, Amolapatty here. The narcotic substances, which included brown sugar and heroin, were found sealed in separate packets.

Weighing 5,425 grams, this is the biggest ever drugs seizure made by Dibrugarh police. A police team, led by Town SI Bhaskar Jyoti Phukan and ASI Arjun Singh, conducted a raid on the apartment around 11 am. The accused was not present during the seizure. The substances were kept hidden under a bed and in the kitchen.

The house where the seizure was made is hardly 500 metres away from the Amolapatty Police Outpost.

Police have detained one Subratun Necha alias Mamuni Begum and Arif Ali, a relative of the accused, for interrogation. Mamuni claimed to be a domestic help, but the police said she has been living with Sarbeque Ahmed.
