Maitree Utsav-2015 concludes at Haflong

HAFLONG, Dec 15 - Maitree Utsav- 2015, organised by the Maitree Utsav Celebration committee here on December 13 and 14 concluded with a demand for organising such events in other places of the district and to make it a yearly event.

On December 13, the programme started with the hoisting of the Maitree Flag by Juri Phukon, DC, Dima Hasao and President of Maitree Utsav in the presence of Dr Ardhendu Dey, Chairman, Linguistic Minority Council, Kamalakshya Deypurkayastha, Parliamentary Secretary, Government of Assam, Shiladitya Deb, BJP State spokesperson, Dr Saumen Bharatiya, Vice President, Maitree Utsav etc., and a huge gathering of people from every walk of life.

This was followed by the inauguration of the Book Fair and Ethnic Food Court by Dr Ardhendu Dey, Chairman, Linguistic Minority Council in presence of other guests and was followed by felicitation of the Chief Guest and Guests of Honour with traditional gamosa and mementoes.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Saumen Bharatiya while appreciating the tireless efforts of the organisers opined that this type of event can act as a bridge among the people of Brahmaputra Valley and Barak Valley.

In the evening, an interaction on spreading good news about Dima Hasao' was held with Samudra Gupta Kashyap, senior journalist, The Indian Express, Guwahati, as the moderator. Taking part as resource persons Biioy Sankar Bora, senior journalist, Guwahati, Rahul Karmokar, journalist, Guwahati, Arijit Aditya, Editor, Dainik Jugasankha, Silchar, Bikash Chakraborty, News Editor, Dainik Samayik Prasanga, Silchar discussed various aspects on spreading good news about the Dima Hasao.

Five personalities of the Dima Hasao district � Bikash Brahma, IFS, PCCF, Juri Phukan, DC, Dima Hasao, Giridhari Sah, social worker, Umrangsu, Bidhan Dasgupta, social worker, Maibang and Sukhendra Phonglo, social worker, Haflong � who have contributed a lot in their respective fields for the development of the district, were also felicitated on the occasion.

In the evening, cultural programmes by local participants and the performance by the folk band �DOLCHUT� from Silchar kept the audience spellbound.

On December 14 evening, a cultural programme by Sa RE Ga Ma Little Champ Anamika Chowdhury enthralled the audience. Pankaj Deb, Organising Secretary of Maitree Utsav offered his heartfelt thanks to the people of Dima Hasao and officials of various departments for their active participation in the Maitree Utsav-2015.
