Main Manipur markets to remain closed

IMPHAL, May 6 - The Manipur Government today decided to continue the lockdown in the State. The main markets in Imphal, including women�s markets, will remain closed.

State Chief Secretary Dr J Suresh Babu today issued an order to this effect following a Cabinet decision on continuing with the lockdown till May 17 with exemptions for essential services. Today�s order supersedes the order issued on May 3.

The essential services/activities which are permitted during the lockdown period (May 6-17) in the State include supply of essential goods, movement of cargo, health-related activities, public utilities, agricultural and allied activities, fisheries, animal husbandry, finance sector, social sector, online teaching, MGNERGA works, commercial and private establishments, construction activities, offices of Central and State Governments, etc.

Earlier, Chief Minister N Biren Singh chaired a Cabinet meeting and reviewed the prevailing situation in the State after relaxation of the lockdown and discussed issues related to bringing back Manipuri people stranded in other parts of the country.

The meeting resolved to bear train fare for stranded people of the State. It also decided to provide Rs 200 per head per day along with medical items and support to the stranded persons during their stay at the community quarantine centres.

It may be mentioned here that a meeting of the State Consultative Committee for COVID-19 held on May 5 discussed the arrangement of community quarantine centres in the State.
