Mahim Bora�s death mourned

DOOMDOOMA, Aug 5 - The death of noted Assamese writer Mahim Bora was widely mourned in Doomdooma Circle today. Padmashree awardee Bora had presided over the 55th session of the Asam Sahitya Sabha held at Milantirtha, Doomdooma, in February, 1989.

The Doomdooma Sakha Sahitya Sabha also expressed deep condolences at Bora�s death. In a condolence message, the president of the local literary body, Arjun Baruah, and its secretary, Nityananda Das, termed his death as an irreparable loss to Assamese literature.

The Sabha flag will be kept at half mast for three days at the office of the Sakha Sahitya Sabha as a mark of respect to the departed soul.

The Doomdooma Press Club, Tinsukia District Journalists� Association, Tinsukia District Sahitya Sabha, Rupai Sakha Sahitya Sabha, Doomdooma Jatiya Vidyalaya, Doomdooma College, Hoonlal HS School, Doomdooma Girls� High School, Doomdooma Namghar Samiti, Doomdooma Asomiya Puja Aru Natya Mandir Samiti, Ramdhenu Mohila Chora, the Doomdooma branch of Sadau Asom Lekhika Samaroh Samity, Learners� High School, Rupai High School and several other organisations and institutions expressed deep condolences at the death of Mahim Bora.

Jagiroad Correspondent adds: The death of eminent litterateur Mahim Bora was widely mourned in and around Jagiroad, including Mayong Circle, on Friday. Several organisations namely, Jagiroad Journalists� Association, Morigaon Zila Sahitya Sabha, Jagiroad Sakha Sahitya Sabha, Jagiroad Press Club, the Morigaon district committee of the JAA, Jagiroad Anchalik Students� Union, Kagaj Nagar Lekhika Samaroh Samiti and the Jagiroad College fraternity, along with several distinguished persons here, condoled Bora�s death.

Members of these organisations placed floral wreaths on the body of the late writer when it arrived here on the way to Nagaon from Guwahati this afternoon.

His death is an irreparable loss to Assamese literature and the greater Assamese society, speakers said in a condolence meeting organised on the Jagiroad College premises, which was attended by teachers, non-teaching staff and students.
