Mahim Bora�s birthday celebrated

NAGAON, July 7 - The 93rd birthday of Mahim Bora, celebrated short story writer and poet of Kathanibari Ghat fame, was celebrated on Wednesday. A number of organisations and people from all walks of life greeted the nonagenarian litterateur at his Kolongpar residence on his birthday.

Bora observed that all the fame he received in his life was due to the grace of God. Now he spends several hours of the day in his prayer room. However, he also attends selected meetings and expresses his views if his health permits.

On the occasion of Bora�s 93rd birthday, a collection of articles called Sankaradeva Sarsa, written by him on Srimanta Sankaradeva and edited by poet Kumar Bibhuti, was released by the VC of Mahapurusha Srimanta Sankaradeva Viswavidyalaya, Dr KK Deka, in a function held at the residence of Mahim Bora on July 5. In his address, Dr Deka observed that the philosophy of Srimanta Sankaradeva was deeply rooted in the Assamese society. He appealed to the new generation to study the works of the great saint-reformer.

Noted exponent of Sankari literature, Tilok Chandra Majumdar, actor Jnanda Bora, litterateur Cheniram Bora and Madhurjyya Mandit Borooah also spoke in the function, which was anchored by poet and writer Pranjal Bordoloi.
