Mahila Congress dharna

By Staff reporter

GUWAHATI, May 6 - Members of the Assam Pradesh Mahila Congress (APMC) today staged a dharna in front of the Rajiv Bhawan, headquarters of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) to register their protest against failure of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government at the Centre to protect the countrymen and their armed forces from marauding Pakistani armymen and terrorists.

According to an APMC press release here, over 300 of its members along with office-bearers at various levels, took part in the programme.

Addressing the participants, APMC president Shahnaz Yasmin Haque criticised the failure of the BJP government to protect the countrymen and security forces. She reminded the participants that in 2013, Smriti Irani, now a Union Minister, offered to send bangles to the then Prime Minister of the country for his alleged failure to check cross-border terrorism.

The All India Mahila Congress (AIMC) has now decided to collect bangles from women of every state and send them to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in line with the 2013 offer of Smriti Irani, as a measure to pay the BJP in its own coin.

The bangles would be handed over to Smriti Irani and Prime Minister Modi at a date to be fixed by the AIMC, the APMC president said.
