By A Correspondent

NAGAON, Oct 3 - Against the recent assault on Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi by police in Uttar Pradesh, the district committee of the Mahila Congress staged a protest and burned the effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath near the Nagaon Swahid Bhavan in the town on Saturday.

During the stir, the agitators blocked the old NH-37 road near Nowgong College for several hours which created heavy traffic congestion for over an hour.

Meanwhile, senior police officials of the district rushed to the spot and later managed to ease the traffic congestion from the road.

Hundreds of protesters from the district womens cell of the Congress reverberated the heart of the small town with various slogans against PM Modi and UP Chief Minister Adityanath for hours and slammed both the Union and UP governments for failing to provide safeguards to innocent girls.

During the protest, the protesters demanded exemplary action as well as punishment to those notorious culprits who were involved in the killing of the girl at Hathras after the gangrape.

Former Congress MLA Dr Durlav Chamua and president of district Congress Tapan Kr Sarma also took part in the stir.
