Mahasweta, Rituraj, Dipu bag school chess titles

GUWAHATI, Dec 24 � Mahasweta Kumar of Collegiate Higher Secondary School, Mangaldai clinched the title in the Queen Group of the All Assam School Chess which concluded at the Assam Jatiya Vidyalaya here today. In the Knight Group, Rituraj Borgohain of St Xavier�s School, Duliajan became winner while in the Pawn Group, Dipu Pradhan of St Peter School, Nazira won the crown.

The championship was organised by Guwahati Chess Academy where 142 players from 30 schools from all over the State took part. Assam Jatiya Vidyalaya was declared best team in the meet while South Point School received the most advance school award. Prasurjya Gayan of Holy Home School was named most promising player of the championship.

The final results: (Queen Group) Mahasweta Kumar, Collegiate HS School, Mangaldai (6 pts), Krishnashish Gogoi, Shrimanta Shankar Academy, Guwahati (5� pts), Mrinmoy Kshattry, Carmel School, Digboi (5� pts), Indranil Talukdar, Assam Jatiya Bidyalay, Guwahati (5 pts), Sudesna Sarma, Happy Montessory School, Guwahati (5 pts).

Girl: Tina Choudhury, St Mary�s Convent (3� pts), Pranati Acharjee, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Narangi (2� pts).

Knight Group: Rituraj Borgohain St Xavier�s HS School, Duliajan (6 pts), Vaskar Vijay Mech, Donbosco High School, Tezpur (6 pts), Salim Raja, Victoria English School, Guwahati (5� pts), Simran Ahmed, Pearl Valley School, Guwahati (5� pts), Debanga Koushik Bhattacharyya, Delhi Public School, Duliajan (5 pts).
