GUWAHATI, Dec 31 Southpaw Akshay Darekar wrecked the Assam innings with a six-wicket haul as the hosts were bundled out for a paltry 152 and conceded a massive 209-run first innings lead in their Group C Ranji Trophy match at the Barsapara stadium here today.

Maharashtra, resuming their first innings at the overnight total of 343 for eight, were all out for 361. But the dismal show of Assam batsmen put them in troubled water and finally fell 209 runs short of the visitors first innings.

As many as six of the Assam batsmen even could not reach double figure as Darekar ripped through the hosts batting line up taking help from the wicket.

Niraj Patel was the top scorer with 40 while Amit Sinha (20), Dheeraj Jadhav (17) and Rishav Das (16) had little touch with the bat. Shrikant Munde was the other leading wicket taker for the visitors with three victims.

With two full days remaining, Maharashtra batted again inspite of forcing the home team to follow on and were 16 for no loss in their second innings.
