GUWAHATI, Nov 24 - It was yet another disappointing show by Assam cricketers in Ranji Trophy as they faced an innings and 52-run defeat against Maharashtra.
On the final day of the four-day match at the Indian Institute of Technology, Chempu Ground, Chennai today, requiring 171 runs to avoid innings defeat, Assam could add 163 runs as they were all out for 234 in the second innings after following on.
Resuming at 115 for six, overnight unbeaten batsmen skipper KB Arun Karthik and Sarupam Purkayastha frustrated the Maharashtra bowlers with some confident looking batting. They added 91 runs for the seventh wicket with both reaching half centuries. Arun remained unbeaten on 87 off 177 balls with 10 hits to the ropes while Sarupam gathered 69 from 57 deliveries. He hit as many as 13 boundaries in his quickfire knock.
After Sarupam�s deparature as seventh wicket, other batsmen Abu Nechim Ahmed (0), Arup Das (1) and Mrinmoy Dutta (0) could not offer any resistance.
