GUWAHATI, Jan 3 � Maharana Athletic Club defeated Ankurjyoti Club by two wickets in the opening match of the Ramesh Baruah Trophy Invitational Cricket Tournament, organised by the Gauhati Town Club at the Judges� Field here today.
It was an all round show by Ranji cricketer Pritam Das and he almost single-handedly gave victory to Maharana.
Batting first, Ankurjyoti managed to score 164 all out in 40 overs where Raju Kalita was the top scorer with 65. Rio Promanik (27) and Nirendra Dekaraja (24) were the other useful contributors. Pritam too four wickets for 19 runs.
Chasing the stiff target, Maharana had some initial hiccup, but Pritom (37) and Neeraj Tiwari (31) saw the day through for Maharana scoring 166 for the loss of eight wickets in 36.1 overs.
