Maharana completes centenary celebration

GUWAHATI, March 12 - Maharana Athletic Club, the premier sports organisation of the entire North-eastern region of India completed its centenary celebration with the concluding function at the Lakshmiram Baruah Sadan here today.

The premier club, set up in 1907, completed its 100 years and the club celebrated its centenary year with various programmes during last year.

The closing function was presided over by the club president KK Bora where secretary Amiya Kalita welcomed the gathering.

A seminar on Assam football�s past, present and future was also held on the occasion where sports organiser and president of the FC Green valley Pulak Goswami, Assam Football Association secretary Ankur Dutta, sports journalist Subodh Malla Baruah spoke on the subject.

The speakers opined that professionalism should be implemented in order to develop the standard of Assam football.

Dutta said Assam Premier League may produce players in near future if it can be organised in a professional way.

Baruah stressed on developing the infrastructure and introducing the training methods of the European and the Latin American countries.

Chief guest Subhash Basumatary, regional director, Sports Authority of India praised the role of the Maharana Club for developing the game in Assam and entire North East.
