Maharana centenary celebration gets off

GUWAHATI, Jan 20 � The year-long centenary celebration of Maharana Athletic Club, a leading sports organisation of the entire north-eastern region got off to a colourful start here today.

The celebration was started with Centenary Marathon this morning. The race was flagged off by first Arjuna Award winning athlete of the State Bhugeswar Baruah in front of the Club at Panbazar which was open for both men and women.

In the evening prize-distribution function was held at District Library auditorium. Local MLA Capt Robin Bordoloi was the chief guest in the function which was presided over by Maharana AC president Kanak Kr Bora.

Olympians Jayanta Talukdar, Shiva Thapa were felicitated by the Club on the occasion. In the function, MP Kumar Deepak Das, Arjuna Bhogeswar Baruah, journalist Premadhar Sharma, Club official Ashish (Moloy) Sengupta were also honoured. General secretary of the Club Amiya Kalita welcomed the gathering.

A cultural function was also organised to mark the occasion where noted artists like Nipon Goswami, Dwipen Boruah, Torali Sarma took part.

The marathon results: (Men) � 1st Saiful Ali, 2nd Bablu Ghose, 3rd Somejuddin, 4th Robin Das, 5th Mobarak Hussain, 6th Parag Kr Deka, 7th Lakhman Batra, 8th Rudreswar Deka, 9th Sahidul Sikder and 10th Jagadish Sahu.

(Women) � 1st Pampa Chanda, 2nd Runjun Kalita, 3rd Archana Bhaduria, 4th Monalisa Kalita, 5th Lailima Khatun, 6th Mina Bordoloi, 7th Alpana Kalita, 8th Boyzanti Pator, 9th Nandini Pator and 10th Lakhi Pator.
