GUWAHATI, March 15 - The State government has appointed advocate BK Mahajan as special public prosecutor in the recent Silapathar incident.
The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Monday. The meeting was also attended by the State Chief Secretary, the DGP and the Home Secretary among others.
Thanking the Chief Minister for reposing faith in him, Mahajan later said, �I will try to do justice to the best of my ability so that peace and amity prevail among different sections of people in the State.�
�The law must catch hold of the law breakers and the culprits must be punished by following the due process of law,� said Mahajan, who is also the special public prosecutor in the cash-for-job scam in the Assam Public Service Commission.
Meanwhile, the Assam Martyrs and Victims Aid Trust has condemned the Silapathar incident and expressed its discontentment at the move to grant citizenship to Hindu Bangladeshis in the State.
