DOOMDOOMA, Jan 15 - The Tinsukia district administration has declared Maguri Motapung Beel, an Important Bird Area which comes under Dibru Saikhowa National Park as a no picnic zone with immediate effect under section 144 of the CrPC.
A large number of picnickers have destroyed the grassland of the beel with vehicles and destroying the natural habitats of the bird species with loud music and fire crackers in the last a few days. Hence, Pranabjit Kakoti, ADM , Tinsukia has declared the beel as a no picnic zone. The administration has also prohibited the use of vehicles, loud speakers, fire crackers, holding of meetings etc., throwing of non-biodegradable plastic and plastic wastes in the area.
It can be mentioned here that Maguri Motapung Beel which hosts a large number of rare and globally endangered species of both resident and migratory birds has been declared as an Important Bird Area by the Birdlife International.
