Magisterial probe ordered into youth�s custodial death

JORHAT, June 15 - Jorhat Deputy Commissioner Roshni A Korati ordered a magisterial inquiry into the custodial death of a youth in the district in the wee hours on Monday.

Korati on Monday said that she directed Additional Deputy Commissioner Tapan Gohain to conduct the probe into the incident of custodial death of the youth identified as Jayanta Bora (30) of Kakodunga Habigaon under Pulibor Police Station, on the western outskirts of Jorhat.

The Deputy Commissioner said that Gohain has been asked to complete the inquiry and submit the report within 10 days.

Bora was picked up by an army-police team from his house on Sunday on charges of being an ULFA-I member and was brought to Borholla Police Station under Titabar Civil Subdivision of the district, a district administration official said quoting information received at the district headquarters here.

The Army personnel, who with police assistance picked up Bora, were from 244 Field Regiment based in Charaideo district, the official added.

The official further said that on reaching the police station, the Army team reported that Bora was �feeling uneasy� and, hence, he was immediately admitted to Borholla CHC. The attending doctor gave preliminary treatment and referred him to Jorhat Medical College and Hospital where he was declared dead, the official informed.
