SILCHAR, Dec 2 - Days after the recent government diktat to keep all government-run madrasas and schools in the State function formally on every Friday and observe Sunday as holiday, some madrasas of Cachar district were found closed on Friday.
Following the order of Education Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, Haren Kumar Hazarika, the District Elementary Education Officer, Cachar made a sudden visit to the madrasas of the district and found that only the Fulbari senior madrasa under Katigorah educational block was open.
In his interaction with Abdul Adiud Barbhuiya, head of Gonirgram Senior Madrasa, Hazarika quizzed about the reasons to keep the institute closed despite the government order. While replying to the questions, Barbhuiya said as per Education Rule 1956, we can keep the Madrasas closed on Fridays.
The DEEO also visited the madrasa at Jagadishpur and learnt that the madarasa also remains closed on Fridays.
Interestingly, Nazmul Hussain Barbhuiya, science teacher of Fulbari Senior Madrasa mentioned that they are now following the orders of the government and keeping the madrasa open on Friday.
Meanwhile, reacting on the situation, Hazarika said there are 76 madrasa middle schools (MEMs) and Muktabs under the elementary education level in the district out of which six madrasas were found closed during the visit. Appropriate action as per departmental rules and procedures shall be taken against the madrasas which were found closed on Friday.
