Madhab Rajbongshi joins AGP

GUWAHATI, March 18 � Two-time Lok Sabha member from Mangaldai and senior Congress leader Madhab Rajbongshi joined the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) at a function presided over by the president of the regional party, Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, at the Ambari headquarters of the party here this morning.

At the same function, the AGP president named Rajbongshi as the party�s candidate for the Mangaldai Lok Sabha seat, immediately after the formalities of the latter�s joining the regional party were over.

According to the AGP publicity secretary Manoj Saikia, around 300 Congress members and workers also joined the regional party along with Rajbongshi.

It needs mention here that Rajbongshi was the president of the Darrang District Congress Committee and a member of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee. He had resigned from the Congress yesterday.

Addressing the function at the Ambari headquarters of the AGP, Rajbongshi said that Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi misbehaved with him when he had opposed the move to nominate Sanjay Singh as the Congress candidate for the recently held Rajya Sabha elections. He warned that after the ensuing Lok Sabha polls, the Congress would have to face �stormy situations� in the State.
