Lyricist-singer Manmath Baishya no more

GUWAHATI, Aug 25 - Veteran lyricist, musician and singer Manmath Baishya breathed his last on Tuesday at a private hospital here. He was 73 and is survived by wife and two sons.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal mourned Baishya�s death and said that his untimely demise is a great loss for the Assamese society. In a condolence message, Sonowal also recalled the contributions of Baishya towards the cultural sector of Assam.

Industries and Commerce Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary also condoled the demise of Baishya.

In a condolence statement, the Minister said that Manmath Baishya was a well-known lyricist, singer and an exponent of Assamese folk music. His works are appreciated by music lovers and cultural critics. His demise is an irreparable loss for the cultural milieu of the State, Patowary added.

Beltola Puberun Sangha and Beltola Bohagi Utsav Udjyapan Samity offered their last respects to the departed soul.
