Lynching incident rocks Rajya Sabha

By Spl Correspondent

NEW DELHI, March 10 The lynching of Syed Farid Khan rocked Rajya Sabha today, with the Congress demanding a CBI probe into the incident.

Opposition members raised the issue, demanding suspension of Zero Hour to discuss the matter. However, their request was turned down by Deputy Chairman PJ Kurien.

Agitated MPs said the issue of lynching of the Dimapur rape accused and similar incidents should be discussed after Janata Dal (United) member Sharad Yadav demanded a suo motu statement from the government. Yadav dubbed the matter as failure of law and order.

What is the difference in Taliban, ISIS and this? Yadav asked. Do we want to take this country to anarchy? Where was the state government when 10,000 people broke into the jail, Yadav questioned.

The Opposition members also supported a suggestion made by CPI (M) member TN Seema for a special sitting to discuss continuing incidents of rape and the delay in bringing culprits to justice.

Participating in the discussion, Rajya Sabha MP Pankaj Bora demanded a CBI inquiry into the whole incident, besides demanding a response from the government. He also took a snipe at the Prime Minister, reminding the House that Narendra Modi had called Nagaland his own state.
