By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, June 13 - Prime accused Alfajoz Timung, who allegedly orchestrated the lynching of two youths in Karbi Anglong on Friday night, has been arrested, even as the Assam Police today vouch-ed for a fast-track trial of the case.

Director General of Assam Police Kuladhar Saikia told media persons today that Timung had an altercation with Nilotpal Das and Abhijeet Das, after which he mobilised the locals against the duo, branding them as child-lifters.

Following the altercation, Timung made a call to one Vinod, who, along with a group of men, intercepted the vehicle in which Nilotpal and Abhijeet were travelling. The locals were told that the duo was trying to abduct a child from the locality. Subsequently, they were beaten to death by the frenzied mob, Saikia said, adding, Timung had even pelted stones at the vehicle.

Timung was arrested from a nearby village where he was hiding. His partner-in-crime Vinod has also been arrested from Sonapur area, informed Saikia.

Now that most of the accused are behind the bars, we would soon be able to draw the links to ascertain how the whole thing unfolded, he said.

Replying to a query, the Assam Police chief said that they would recommend a fast-track trial of the case.

Karbi Anglong Police has so far arrested 28 accused who were allegedly involved in the incident. In addition, police has also arrested 35 persons for trying to disturb the peace and tranquillity by posting objectionable comments in the social networking platforms.

Asked whether there was any lapse on the part of the local police, Saikia said that the ongoing investigation by ADGP (Law and Order) Mukesh Agarwal will look into all the parameters.

We will get to know the details once he submits the report, he pointed out.
